"You will grow up and then you will play": China re-imposes restrictions on playtime for children during winter holidays
Chinese regulators have announced the reintroduction of restrictions on gaming time for minors as the winter school holidays approach. From 15 January to 14 February, children will only be able to play for 16 hours.
Here's What We Know
It is known that the largest gaming companies such as Tencent and NetEase have confirmed their readiness to comply with the new rules. In particular, Tencent will allow children to play for only 15 hours between 13 January and 13 February, while NetEase will provide 16 hours. Regulators stressed that players can play for an hour a day on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and holidays.
These measures were introduced to combat gambling addiction among young people. China has long been concerned that children spend too much time playing video games, which has a negative impact on their health and development.
Tencent has also set up a "risky account database" that flags adult accounts that can be borrowed by children and requires facial recognition to verify users.
