Amazon has ordered more than 200 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 electric trucks
Amazon has placed its largest-ever order for more than 200 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 battery electric heavy-duty trucks. It is also the largest electric truck contract in the history of Mercedes-Benz Trucks.
Here's What We Know
The eActros 600 electric trucks will be used on long-haul routes to transport shipping containers between Amazon's fulfillment centres, sorting centres and delivery stations. "More than 140 trucks" will be deployed in the UK and "more than 50" in Germany. The zero-emission vehicles are expected to move more than 350 million parcels with zero tailpipe emissions.
The order was preceded by practical testing of a near-production prototype of the eActros 600 in one of Amazon's logistics centres in Germany.

Andreas Marschner, vice president of sustainability for Amazon's global operations, said this is Amazon's largest order for heavy-duty electric trucks to date globally and an important step towards fulfilling its Climate Pledge plan to achieve zero carbon emissions across all of its operations by 2040.
In addition to purchasing new electric trucks for long-haul transport, Amazon will also install 360kW chargers "at key sites capable of charging the battery of 40-tonne trucks from 20 to 80 per cent in just one hour". Where these key sites are located or how many chargers will be installed, the company did not specify.

The eActros 600 electric truck has three battery packs, each with 207 kWh. The combined nominal battery capacity is 621 kWh, of which around 600 kWh is available for use. According to the manufacturer, the driving range with a GVW of 40 tonnes is 500 kilometres. However, the eActros 600 can even travel more than 1,000 kilometres per day through intermediate charging during the driver's statutory breaks. In addition to CCS charging with up to 400 kW, the eActros 600 will later also support megawatt charging (MCS).
Mercedes-Benz Trucks recently started production of the eActros 600 at its plant in Wörth, Germany.
