Just a few weeks after the release of the Liberty City Preservation Project, an ambitious mod that adds a playable version of the map from Grand Theft Auto IV to GTA V, the developers confirmed that the project has been closed after negotiations with Rockstar Games.

Here's What We Know

The World Travel modding team has been working on the project since 2018, and its launch earlier this month sparked significant interest among players, allowing them to explore old locations. The mod included the entire map of Liberty City with traffic, pedestrians, weather effects, and improved graphics.

Unfortunately, the positive response to the mod led to a conflict with Rockstar. Modder nkjellman announced the closure of the project on Discord, saying: "Due to the unexpected attention to our project and after a conversation with Rockstar Games, we have decided to close the Liberty City Preservation Project."

Although nkjellman did not specify what exactly caused Rockstar's dissatisfaction, the studio has shut down similar mods before. In 2017, it stopped the Liberty City mod in GTA V, emphasising that it does not allow the use or import of other intellectual property.
