It's official: Sony has cancelled two service games, one of which was based on the God of War franchise
The new management of PlayStation continues to systematically abandon the development of a huge number of service games and today it became known that two more such projects have been cancelled.
Here's What We Know
The first to report that Sony Group Corp. cancelled two service projects reported Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier. He learned that the games were developed by Bluepoint Games and Bend Studio and one of them was an online version of God of War, and the second was created by a new IP.
A Sony spokesperson later confirmed the cancellation and noted that the decision would not affect Bluepoint Games and Bend Studio's future work in any way.
Bend and Bluepoint are highly skilled teams that are valued members of the PlayStation Studios family, and we are working closely with each studio to determine their next projects.
It was previously stated that PlayStation Studios' internal studios are developing 12 service games, but only Helldivers 2 can be called a definite success, while online versions of The Last of Us, Twisted Metal, Marvel's Spider-Man and a game from Deviation Games have been cancelled, and the failure of Concord will be remembered for a long time.
In general, this decision of Sony can only be welcomed, as its single-player projects are of the highest quality and sell tens of millions of copies, while the market of service games is overcrowded and it is almost impossible to succeed there due to the saturation of players and absolute leadership of a few titles.
