Spanish carmaker Cupra will open its own showrooms in the US
Cupra, which is a division of SEAT, plans to open its own showrooms in the United States. This was reported by Automotive News with reference to the head of the company Wayne Griffiths.
Here's What We Know
Griffiths revealed that Cupra will open about 20 so-called "Cupra City Garages" on the east and west coasts of the United States, as well as in Sun Belt states. Cupra is partnering with US transport company Penske to speed up the process.
Cupra originally intended to bring exclusively electric cars to America, but plans have changed over time. In an interview with Motor1 late last year, Griffiths said that along with electric models, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and petrol cars would be coming to the US market.
These models will share the same signature styling as those introduced in Europe. However, to better suit American tastes, the cars for the US market will be larger and therefore more spacious.
The Cupra executive noted that the cars that Cupra will produce in North America will also be exported. Sales are expected to start by the end of this decade. One model will be available in the US at the time of Cupra's launch. The second will arrive within the next 12 months.
Cupra
SEAT spun off the Cupra as a separate brand in 2018, and since then it has enjoyed success across Europe. The biggest market for the Cupra has been Germany.
