Turkey plans to build a plant in Mongolia to produce ammunition for small arms, as well as to help create a company to manufacture drones.

Here's What We Know

This was reported by the Mongolian edition of Live.tv. In addition, since 2016, Turkey has been involved in training the Mongolian military in its educational institutions.

This cooperation is of great geopolitical importance. Turkey is probably guided by the desire to implement the concept of "Greater Turan", which involves strengthening its influence in Asia. At the same time, the economic efficiency of building a plant in Mongolia may take a back seat to the importance of geopolitical influence.

This cooperation is complicated by logistical challenges. The delivery of equipment may require air transport or sea and land transit through China.

It is also worth mentioning that in November 2023, Mongolia received JLTV tactical armoured vehicles as military aid from the United States. According to The Military Balance 2024, with a GDP of $19.6 billion, Mongolia spent $152 million on defence. Its army consists of 5,600 regular servicemen and 3,600 reservists, armed with T-54, T-55, T-72A, BMP-1 tanks, armoured personnel carriers, artillery and air defence systems. The aviation consists of MiG-29UB, An-24, An-26 aircraft, Mi-8 and Mi-171 helicopters, and anti-aircraft artillery.
