KNDS Deutschland has established a joint venture in Ukraine to repair and maintain weapons used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Here's What We Know

According to the Ministry of Strategic Industries, the agreement was signed on 21 January, and practical work is already underway. More than 100 Ukrainian specialists have been trained in Germany, and the necessary equipment has been installed at the enterprise after inspection checks.

For security reasons, the name of the Ukrainian company and other details are not disclosed.

KNDS Deutschland, a joint venture between Germany's KMW and France's Nexter, maintains such vehicles as Leopard 1 and Leopard 2 tanks, PzH 2000 self-propelled artillery systems, Gepard anti-aircraft systems, Dingo armoured vehicles, as well as advanced RCH-155 artillery systems and RCT30 Boxer combat vehicles.

The opening of such an enterprise in Ukraine lays the foundation for localising the production of military equipment. This is critically important for rearming and providing the Armed Forces with modern equipment.

It is known that KNDS announced its intention to enter the Ukrainian market in March 2024 after agreements at the level of the German and French defence ministers. Meanwhile, Rheinmetall, another major player, plans to set up four plants in Ukraine.
