Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese are preparing for a new collaboration on The Devil in the White City, based on the book of the same name by Erik Larson. The project, which has been in various stages of development for more than 20 years, is being revived at 20th Century Studios. DiCaprio is in negotiations for the lead role, while Scorsese is in talks to direct; both will also serve as producers of the film

Here's What We Know

Larson's book tells the parallel stories of architect Daniel Burnham, who oversaw the construction of the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, and con man H.G. Holmes, who confessed to killing 27 people during the fair. It is not yet known who exactly DiCaprio will play - Burnham or Holmes. The actor had previously planned to embody the image of Holmes when he acquired the rights to adapt the book in 2010.

This film will be the seventh collaboration between DiCaprio and Scorsese, who have previously collaborated on such films as Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Island of the Damned, The Wolf of Wall Street and Killers of the Flower Moon. If the project comes to fruition, it will be Scorsese's first theatrical release since Silence (2016), as his subsequent works have been released on streaming platforms.

There were previously plans to adapt Devil in the White City as a TV series for Hulu, but the project was cancelled in 2023. It is now returning to a feature film format.
