In 2024, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was the most purchased game in the US, but overall spending on games decreased by 9%

According to Circana, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 became the best-selling game of 2024 in the US, giving the franchise market leadership for the 16th consecutive year. However, the total spending of US consumers on video games decreased by 9% compared to the previous year, amounting to $7.5 billion.
Here's What We Know
Despite the success of Black Ops 6, spending on game content decreased by 5% and on hardware by 29%. The decline in spending on consoles, especially Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch (down 38% each), as well as PlayStation 5 (down 18%), had a significant impact on the overall performance. At the same time, spending on accessories remained at the level of the previous year.
Despite the overall decline in spending, some games showed positive growth. Roblox saw a 24% increase in consumer spending in December compared to November, reaching almost $12 million on mobile devices in the US. Christmas Day was particularly successful, with spending up 35% year-on-year.
Overall, although Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was the clear leader of 2024, overall trends show a decline in video game spending in the US, which may be due to market saturation and changing consumer preferences.
