In 2024, consumers will spend $1bn on applications that use artificial intelligence (AI). The technology industry is actively incorporating AI into its developments, which has led to the emergence of many new services and applications with incredible capabilities. In the mobile segment, Google and Samsung have pioneered the use of this technology.

Here's What We Know

According to a new report, AI has significantly increased consumer spending on apps. Examples of these apps include image and video editors that allow you to make complex changes with just a few taps. However, most of these apps offer limited free trials, and you have to pay to increase your usage limit.

The Sensor Tower report states that users are becoming more willing to pay for apps with AI-based features, driving app spending to $150bn in 2024, up 13% year-on-year. Interest in AI-based apps has skyrocketed, with apps such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Doubao increasing consumer spending by 200% year-on-year.

It is reported that in 2024, consumers used AI apps for nearly 7.7 billion hours and such apps were downloaded nearly 17 billion times. Sensor Tower says that at this rate, AI apps will quickly become a top 10 annual consumer spend.

For example, ChatGPT, a pioneer in this segment, is reaching 50 million monthly active users. Most impressively, it has done so faster than services like Temu, Disney+ or YouTube Music.
