Certification of Sony's new flagship WH-1000XM6 headphones hints at their imminent release

It's been three years since Sony launched the WH-1000XM5, and now it looks like the company is getting ready to launch the new WH-1000XM6. A recent filing with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has revealed some details about the upcoming headphones.
Here's What We Know
In particular, the filing indicates the presence of removable ear cushions, which is a significant change from the previous model. The product schematic shows that the ear cushions can be removed to access a nameplate containing the model and serial numbers. This innovation suggests that the attachment of the ear cushions will be screwless, possibly using clips or magnets.

The application also includes information about a new hinge, which may indicate a return to a folding design like the XM4. The application mentions Bluetooth 5.3 support and some details about the antenna and power specifications. Although the WH-1000XM6 is still in the prototype stage, an official reveal is expected by 22 July 2025, hinting at a possible spring release.
