iOS 18 is showing excellent rates of popularity compared to last year's release of iOS 17. According to the statistics provided by Apple, the new operating system is installed on 76% of iPhones released over the past four years.

Here's What We Know

For iPads, this figure is 63% with iPadOS 18.

In general, 68% of all iPhones have iOS 18 installed, and 53% of iPads run on iPadOS 18. 19% of iPhones are still running iOS 17, and 13% are running earlier versions of the operating system. As for iPads, 28% are running iPadOS 17, and 19% are running older versions.

These figures are the first official data on the adoption rate of iOS 18 since its release last September. For comparison, iOS 17 was installed on 76% of iPhones in the last four years by 5 February 2024, and on 66% of all iPhones overall.

iOS 18 is on pace with iOS 17, but it is worth noting that Apple shared the results a little earlier this year. It is expected that iOS 18.3 and iPadOS 18.3 updates will be released next week, which may contribute to the new system's even greater popularisation.

Additionally, the new Siri features that will be available with the iOS 18.4 update in April could cause another big jump in iOS 18 adoption.

iOS 18 supports devices up to six years old, starting with the iPhone XS/XR, but some Apple Intelligence features are only available for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 models, which may deter owners of older devices from upgrading.

Apple recently released the second beta of iOS 18.3 and iPadOS 18.3 for developers.
