One of the modification enthusiasts known as crastinator-pro has radically changed the Steam Deck portable console by creating the so-called "Steam Brick". He removed the screen, built-in controllers, and other components, leaving only the motherboard, battery, Wi-Fi antenna, storage, USB-C port, power button, and cooling fan. This significantly reduced the size of the device, making it more compact for transport.

Here's What We Know

Crastinator-pro noted that he often uses Steam Deck by connecting it to a TV or AR glasses and rarely uses the built-in screen and controllers. So he decided to remove these components to reduce the size of the device and make it easier to transport. After the modification, the Steam Brick successfully boots up and connects to external peripherals such as controllers and displays.

The modder warns that such a modification is risky and may damage the device. He also notes that a newer version of the Steam Deck with an OLED screen is better suited for this modification, although it means removing the high-quality display.
