Probably one of the most exciting events of Xbox Developer Direct was Ninja Gaiden 4. The story centres on Yakumo, a newcomer who sets off to a devastated Tokyo to defeat the Dark Dragon. Ryu Hayabusa, a series regular, also makes an appearance, although his motives remain unclear.

Here's What We Know

The sudden return of the franchise 13 years after Ninja Gaiden 3 seems surreal. However, after Team Ninja and PlatinumGames revealed that they had been working on the project in secret for years, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer shared that discussions about the game started much earlier.

In an interview with Gamertag Radio, Spencer said that the title was conceived after Xbox "knocked on some doors and said: "What if?" six or seven years ago". He expressed pride in Xbox's strong relationship with Japanese publishers, although he admitted that it took a lot of "flying, FaceTime, and listening" to get to this point. While he is pleased with the progress, Spencer believes there is still work to be done, stressing that Ninja Gaiden 4 is what the Xbox community deserves.

Where To Play

The game will be released this autumn for Xbox Series, PlayStation 5, and PC.
