Social network Bluesky is actively introducing video. After launching a new TikTok-like video feed last week due to a temporary ban on the app in the US, the company announced on Monday that a new video tab will now appear in user profiles.

Here's What We Know

The new tab will allow users to add videos to their profiles, whether it's original content or videos from other social networks like TikTok. This will not only increase the activity on the platform, but can also become an additional source of income for Bluesky. If the feature becomes popular, the company may introduce paid options for longer or higher quality videos as part of a future premium subscription plan.

However, not all Bluesky users are ready for their network to become another TikTok competitor. Some are already asking if they can switch off the tab in their profiles. Others are asking that Bluesky pay more attention to features they are used to seeing on X, such as editing options.

There is interest among developers in creating video-focused applications for Bluesky. Several teams are already working on applications similar to TikTok for Bluesky. For example, Sebastian Vogelsang from Berlin has developed Skeets and Flashes (similar to Bluesky for Instagram), and Reelo and Skylight are actively developing apps.

A well-known investor and entrepreneur, Mark Cuban, recently announced that he is ready to back an app built on the AT Protocol that supports Bluesky.

A new tab for videos in user profiles was introduced in the Bluesky 1.97 update. This update also includes a menu for blocking users, the ability to delete conversations after filing a direct message (DM) complaint, and translation improvements.
