In the summer of 2024, Microsoft and The Coalition announced Gears of War: E-Day, a prequel to the first instalment of the iconic shooter series that will reveal how the war between humanity and the alien race of Locusts (Locus) began.

And only now it was revealed that another studio, which has a lot of experience with the Gears of War franchise, is working on the ambitious game.

Here's What We Know

Polish studio People Can Fly, known as the creator of shooters Painkiller, Bulletstorm and Outriders, announced that it, together with The Coalition, is directly involved in the development of Gears of War: E-Day.

The team loves and respects the series and is confident that the new game will exceed expectations.

Here is how The Coalition's head Mike Crump commented on the cooperation with Polish colleagues:

Gears of War: E-Day is not just our next big game, it's a return to what makes the Gears of War games special and authentic. We're excited to partner with the talented folks at People Can Fly who have been part of the legacy of our franchise for so long.

As a reminder, People Can Fly was the developer of Gears of War: Judgment, as well as porting the first instalment to PC and assisting in the development of the sequel and Gears of War 3.

It was previously reported that People Can Fly is working on something called Project Maverick and has received $50 million from Microsoft to develop it. We speculated that this project might turn out to be a new Gears of War instalment and apparently we were right.

Flashback

It is E-day that gives the beginning of all the events in the game.

In just 26 hours, 25% of the world's population was destroyed and this event had such an impact on people's lives that it became the beginning of a new calendar system. For example, the events of the first instalment of Gears of War begin on AE 14 - 14 years after Rift Day.

When We Can Expect It

The release date of Gears of War: E-Day is not yet announced, as well as the list of platforms, but obviously, the shooter will be available at least on PC and Xbox Series.
