OpenAI has launched a special version of ChatGPT for US government agencies - ChatGPT Gov.

Here's What We Know

This version includes most of the features available in the Enterprise version of the chatbot, including the use of the GPT-4o model. OpenAI stated in its blog that their products are designed to ensure that artificial intelligence supports national interests, is consistent with democratic values, and contributes to the improvement of public services for citizens.

Earlier, government employees were already actively using ChatGPT in their daily work. According to the company, employees of more than 3,500 federal, state, and local agencies sent more than 18 million messages in 2024. The new version allows these agencies to deploy ChatGPT in their own Microsoft Azure cloud environment (commercial or government). This should facilitate the work of IT departments by ensuring that the tool is used securely.

The development of ChatGPT Gov coincided with the announcement of OpenAI's cooperation with SoftBank to build a $500 billion AI infrastructure in the US over four years. However, the announcement raised doubts about the funding of the project known as Stargate. According to The Information, SoftBank and OpenAI initially plan to invest only $19 billion each, which is significantly less than the promised $100 billion at the start.

On Monday, the shares of US tech companies plummeted after the Chinese AI assistant DeepSeek overtook ChatGPT in the App Store's free app ranking. The R1 model, which cost only $6 million to develop, has displaced the American competitor from the top.
