Huawei is working on the development of the latest 3D fingerprint sensor for smartwatches, according to the company's latest patent.

Here's What We Know

The sensor will have the ability to support multiple gestures and fingerprints, which will significantly expand the ability to interact with the device by simply touching the screen. This sensor not only registers fingerprints, but also supports multiple gestures.

The patent shows that the entire display of a smartwatch can become a fingerprint sensor, making operation even more intuitive. In addition, the sensor will be capable of registering 360-degree fingerprints, allowing for a variety of functions. This includes registering multiple fingers for different actions: for example, a thumb to return to the previous screen, an index finger to make a call, and a middle finger to close an app.

Some of the images in the patent also show the ability to control the volume and brightness of the display using gestures. Users will be able to simply touch the sensor and rotate their finger clockwise or counterclockwise to increase or decrease the volume and brightness.

The technology has already been patented, and although it will take time to launch on Huawei smartwatches, if this sensor does become a reality, smartwatches will become much more intuitive and convenient to use. However, no official announcements have been made yet regarding the commercialisation of this technology.
