Plug & Charge technology is coming to more Volvo models. What is it?

Volvo Cars has announced the expansion of the PlugCharge feature for the 2026 model year electric cars. While the feature was previously only available in the Volvo EX90, it will now also appear in the EX30, EX40 and EC40 models for the European market.
Here's What We Know
PlugCharge eliminates the need for drivers to use maps or specialised apps to charge at suitable stations. Simply plug the cable into the charging port and the system will authorise and charge the user itself. Compatible charging stations can be found via Google Maps, which is integrated into the car's infotainment system, or via the Volvo Cars app.
Another new feature for 2026 models is an updated Volvo Car UX for the infotainment system and the display in front of the driver. The interface is already available in the EX90 and EX30, and now the entire Volvo range, including hybrid cars, will get it.
The updated Volvo Car UX is exemplified by the Volvo V60:

The main changes are:
- new centre display home screen for quick access to the apps you need;
- Context panel with dynamic shortcuts;
- a digital instrument cluster with a larger navigation screen;
- Overall, Volvo says the system is more responsive and faster.
Owners of Volvo cars with Google Automotive from 2020 (that's about 2.5 million cars) will be able to receive the update over the air (OTA).
