Stellantis has announced the acquisition of all minority shares in the joint venture that Stellantis formed in 2018 with Belgian OEM Punch Powertrain. From now on, the auto giant has full control over the production of electrified dual-clutch transmissions (eDCT) at plants in France's Metz and Italy's Turin (Mirafiori).

Here's What We Know

A special feature of the eDCT is the integration of a 48-volt, 21 kW electric motor into the dual-clutch transmission. This electric unit provides traction when less torque is required, such as in city driving or at constant speed, allowing the internal combustion engine to remain off for 50 per cent of the time in city cycles. This has a positive impact on fuel economy and reduced emissions.

The eDCT transmissions will be used across the entire line of mild hybrid (MHEV) vehicles and in the new generation of Stellantis plug-in hybrids (PHEVs).

Stellantis is one of the world's leading carmakers. The company brings together the Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroën, Dodge, DS Automobiles, Fiat, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Opel, Peugeot, Ram, Vauxhall, Free2move and Leasys brands.
