Microsoft: Xbox console sales down 29% in last fiscal quarter, games down 7%

In its most recent financial report for the quarter ended 31 December 2024, Microsoft reported a 7% decline in gaming revenues, with Xbox hardware sales down 29%. This drop is equivalent to a reduction of $530 million, bringing the total revenue of the Xbox division to $6.6 billion.

Despite the decline in hardware sales, the company reported a 2% increase in revenue from Xbox content and services, driven by growth in Xbox Game Pass subscriptions and game sales.

Microsoft's overall performance was supported by its cloud and artificial intelligence sectors. The company achieved 12% year-on-year growth in total revenue, reaching $69.6 billion, and 10% growth in net profit, which amounted to $24.1 billion. Notably, the AI division exceeded its annual revenue target of $13 billion, up 175% year-on-year.
