GoPro has updated its budget-friendly Hero action camera, adding 4K video recording in 4:3 aspect ratio and a new SuperView Digital Lens option for even more dynamic footage.

Here's What We Know

Hero is the smallest and lightest camera in the GoPro lineup, weighing just 86 grams, and is ideal for active travellers and sports enthusiasts. This model differs from older versions, such as the Hero 13 Black, by not having a front screen, which reduces the price to $179 compared to $338.53 for the older model, which is currently available with a 15% discount.

The new update gives users the option of choosing a 4:3 format when shooting video. GoPro claims that this will help make videos even more immersive and engaging, especially in the context of social media, where vertical videos take up more screen space.

For fans of traditional 16:9 widescreen footage, there's also a SuperView Digital Lens option that adds a wider viewing angle when editing. This upgrade is already available through the GoPro and GoPro Quik apps, which allow users to update their camera settings seamlessly. The SuperView Digital Lens option, which was previously only available for higher-end GoPro cameras, is now available for free as an option in the app for the tiny HERO camera.

With the new updates, the 86-gram HERO is GoPro's smallest, lightest, and ultra-wide-angle camera ever.
