Apple CEO Tim Cook said that DeepSeek's artificial intelligence represents "innovation that drives efficiency" during a call with analysts.

Here's What We Know

Answering the question about the impact of DeepSeek models on the company's business, Cook stressed that Apple uses a hybrid model for AI: some tasks are performed locally, others - through the cloud via partnerships, in particular with OpenAI.

Cook noted that Apple is taking a cautious approach to AI spending.

Recently, OpenAI accused DeepSeek of violating its rules for using models through a distillation process, which could have called into question the Chinese company's achievements.

Cook noted that Apple might integrate models from other companies in the future, such as Google's Gemini or Anthropic's Claude. However, Cook did not go so far as to suggest that Apple would integrate DeepSeek's models.

Investors also asked about the results of Apple Intelligence. Although the AI features did not lead to an immediate increase in iPhone sales, Cook stated that sales were stronger in regions with the launched features. He added that the company always focuses on long-term investment in innovation, even if it does not produce immediate results.

In addition, Apple suspended the news summary feature after one of its versions generated unverified headlines by changing facts. The company promised to thoroughly check and improve the functionality to avoid similar problems in the future.

It became known that the Pentagon is trying to block DeepSeek after employees connected to Chinese servers.
