Taiwan has become another country that has banned the use of Chinese artificial intelligence DeepSeek. The country's ban applies to government agencies and key infrastructure.

Here's What We Know

Taiwan's Ministry of Digital Affairs announced the ban, citing concerns about data leaks and cross-border transfers. Officials expressed concern about DeepSeek's data collection methods, which could reveal sensitive information.

DeepSeek is known to store user data on Chinese servers and under Chinese law, this data is transferred to Chinese intelligence agencies for processing. This raises concerns that the Chinese government could gain access to private information.

This decision by Taiwan follows similar measures recently taken by Italy, where data protection agency Garante blocked DeepSeek due to privacy and data security concerns. Germany and other European countries are also looking into DeepSeek's activities, fearing excessive collection of personal data by the Chinese startup, such as IP addresses, chat logs and even keyboard activity.

The United States has also taken precautions by restricting DeepSeek's use in some parts of its network. The Pentagon and the US Navy have banned their employees from using this AI.
