From spice mining to joint adventures: how Dune: Awakening tries to recreate the social aspect of World of Warcraft
Dune: Awakening, Funcom's upcoming MMO, promises to immerse players in the world of Arrakis, where they can mine spices, engage in PvP battles, and explore a vast open world. However, how do the developers plan to make the transition for players when they play alone and then form a team?
Here's What We Know
Creative Director Joel Bilos believes that the classic World of Warcraft is the inspiration for this transition. In a conversation with VG247, he noted that the game should create conditions under which players will naturally team up. "WoW Classic does a great job with this. Players start off on their own, but then find like-minded people to adventure with," Bilos explained.
He emphasised that it is important to make players feel the need to play together, as it will make completing tasks much easier. "We want to create an atmosphere where you want to play with others to make things easier for yourself," he added.
Although the exact release date for Dune: Awakening on PC has not yet been announced, it could be as early as this year. The game will also be released on consoles, but at a later date. However, the game was immediately made with the gamepad in mind.
