PlayStation cuts staff again: part of the software team laid off

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) is conducting another wave of layoffs, this time affecting software developers.
Here's What We Know
According to former senior design technologist Oscar Diaz, he and most of his team have been laid off. He said: "It's been a dream come true for me to work with Sony on the platforms I grew up with, starting with the PS1, and to contribute to the PS5, Portal, PSVR2, PS App, and future consoles."
So far, there is no official information on the scale of these layoffs and the reasons behind them. Some speculate that it may be related to Sony's recent decision to fully integrate SN Systems, a developer of programming tools for PlayStation consoles that SIE acquired in 2005.
These cuts come on the heels of previous layoffs at the company. In February 2024, SIE announced plans to lay off about 900 employees and close its London Studio. In October of the same year, the Firewalk and Neon Koi studios were closed, resulting in the loss of more than 200 jobs.
So far, PlayStation representatives have not provided official comments on the latest layoffs.
