Nintendo plans to continue releasing new games for the original Switch, even after the launch of Switch 2. The president of the company, Shuntaro Furukawa, noted that projects such as Pokémon Legends Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond are still planned for release on the first version of the console.

Furukawa also stressed that exclusive Switch 2 games remain "very important" for the successful launch of the new platform. He noted that while the company is committed to maintaining the large user base of the original Switch, the availability of exclusive software is a key factor in the launch of a new console.

Earlier, Nintendo confirmed that Switch 2 will be backwards compatible with most games and accessories from the original console, allowing players to continue enjoying their favourite titles on the new platform.

More details about exclusive games and other Switch 2 features will be revealed at the upcoming Nintendo Direct event scheduled for April 2025.
