Google continues to improve the way it labels content created using artificial intelligence. Now the company has announced that it will use SynthID technology to mark images modified through the Reimagine feature in Magic Editor.

Here's What We Know

SynthID technology was developed by Google DeepMind in 2023 and allows you to add invisible digital watermarks to any content created using generative AI. This technology has been used in applications such as Lyria, Imagen, and Gemini.

Now SynthID will mark images edited through Magic Editor, where users can modify their photos, move elements, remove or add effects. Reimagine is available to people aged 18 and older on Pixel 9 and later devices. Users can enter simple queries such as "autumn leaves" to change parts of the image and choose from a selection of options.

An important innovation is that the image modified with this feature will now have a SynthID watermark. This watermark will be available for anyone to view using the "About This Image" feature. This step makes it even more accurate to determine whether an image was created or modified using artificial intelligence.

Google has expanded Gemini with experimental models in version 2.0. The first model available to all users is Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking, which is trained to "break down prompts into a series of steps to strengthen its reasoning capabilities and provide the best answers".
