Google is preparing an update for the Google Messages app that will allow users to delete sent RCS messages for all chat participants.

Here's What We Know

This feature will be made possible by the new Universal Profile 2.7 standard, which was approved by the GSMA last June. Currently, deleting a message only removes it from the sender's device, but with the new update, users will be able to delete messages from recipients' devices as well.

In the beta version of the Google Messages app, lines of code have already appeared indicating the ability to choose between deleting a message only for yourself or for all chat participants. However, all users must have the latest version of the app for this feature to work properly. When a message is deleted, the chat room will display a notification that the message has been deleted by the sender.

In addition, the new Universal Profile 2.7 standard includes official support for replies and reactions to messages, as well as the ability to edit messages after they have been sent. It is not yet known when these features will be available to all users, but they are expected in the near future.
