Russian military finds mined FPV goggles that explode when switched on
Russian FPV drone operators received goggles from volunteers to control drones with hidden explosive devices.
Here's What We Know
Footage was posted online showing a seized batch of mined gadgets that were supposed to detonate when they were first switched on.
According to sources, improvised explosive devices were found in Skyzone's Cobra XV4 FPV goggles. A charge of 10-15 grams of plastic explosives was placed under the body in the cooler area, near the temple. The detonator circuit was connected to the power button, which could have caused instant death to the operator if he had been wearing goggles.
The mined devices were found during the inspection of humanitarian aid provided by volunteers. However, according to the published materials, the explosives could only be found after disassembling the glasses.
It is likely that the Russian military noticed the devices after at least one pair was triggered.
As a reminder, in December 2024, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, the head of the Russian army's radiation, chemical and biological defence troops, was killed in an explosion in Moscow. His assistant was killed along with him. The explosion took place on 17 December near a residential building on Ryazansky Prospekt at around six in the morning, when the men were leaving the entrance. According to the investigation, the explosive device was planted in an electric scooter parked at the entrance.
