Turkish company to open plant in Germany to produce scarce 155mm shells
The Turkish company Repkon has announced the signing of an agreement to build a plant in Germany to produce scarce 155mm shells with explosives.
Here's What We Know
This agreement is extremely important, as Germany's stockpile has been significantly reduced due to the supply of these shells to Ukraine. The existing production facilities do not allow for a quick restoration of reserves while maintaining the supply of ammunition to Kyiv.
In addition, this may indicate that even Rheinmetall's significant efforts to increase production of shells have not been sufficient to meet the needs of Europe and Ukraine.
Repkon has previously entered into similar deals in the US, Azerbaijan and Pakistan. In particular, in the United States, the company, together with General Dynamics, built the Mesquite plant, which is currently capable of producing 30,000 shells per month and plans to reach 100,000 this year.

It is likely that shells from the new plant in Germany will be supplied to Ukraine, among other countries. However, this will happen no earlier than 2027, as this is how long it will take to build the plant. It is worth noting that the plant will not be engaged in the full production of ammunition, but only one of the stages - filling the finished cases with explosives.
In short, according to the Minister of Defence of Ukraine Rustem Umerov, due to the intensity of hostilities, Ukraine needs about 200,000 155-mm shells per month. The new enterprise will significantly improve the overall situation with the supply of ammunition in the world and for Ukraine.
