Insomniac Games is known to modern gamers as the creator of the excellent superhero action games Marvel's Spider-Man and the popular action-platformers Ratchet Clank.

However, in the PlayStation 3 era, the company's flagship franchise was the Resistance trilogy of shooters, in which mankind fought an invasion of alien invaders.

The series was very popular and demonstrated all the capabilities of the PS3, but did not stand the test of time.

Here's What We Know

Insomniac Games co-founder and former Insomniac Games executive Ted Price, who recently left the studio after 30 years, took part in the Kinda Funny Games podcast, in which he made an interesting statement.

According to Price, 14 years ago Insomniac Games was preparing to develop the fourth instalment of Resistance. The team painted the backstory of the story and came up with several variants of the story development, and then approached Sony with a proposal to finance the development of the game. But the company turned out to be uninterested in continuing the series.

Yes, we pitched this game to Sony, and we had a wonderful concept for it. It didn't work out. The timing and the opportunity never came up. But that idea came about because a lot of people in our studio really wanted to continue the Resistance story.

I'm sure that the first Resistance was a great setting for the story, showing an alternate history world where anything could have happened: where else the Chimeras could have gone, where they could have come from.... We worked a lot on the backstory of this universe and thought about how we could develop it in the future.

However, PlayStation was not interested in a new Resistance: the company was not satisfied with the project in terms of production time and market opportunities.

Ted Price regrets that he never managed to release Resistance 4, but he believes that the studio was on the right path and released a lot of high quality games.

Insomniac Games is currently working on Marvel's Wolverine, which is sure to be a worthy continuation of the studio's 30-year history.
