The Russian occupiers have begun to install protective nets over hundreds of metres of road in the occupied territories to protect themselves from Ukrainian drones.

Here's What We Know

Russian propagandists have released a video of military engineers installing protective nets to cover roads from FPV drone strikes. According to the commander of the engineering battalion of the 3rd Army Corps of the "South" group, their group is working on creating more than 2 km of anti-drone nets.

According to the occupiers, the nets are being installed in the most exposed areas to protect equipment while moving. They also claim to be constantly improving the technology, trying to increase the coverage area and speed up the installation process.

According to the released footage, such structures have already appeared on the supply routes between Bakhmut and Chasovyi Yar. The scale of the project is not yet clear, but it can be assumed that the occupiers will expand such "protective networks" if they prove effective.

Such structures are a cheap way to protect against both FPV drones (especially fibre-optic drones that are not subject to electronic warfare) and ammunition drops from quadcopters. Even if the nets do not guarantee complete protection, they can make it more difficult for drone operators to operate and increase the cost of a drone to hit a single target.
