The full release of Sid Meier's Civilisation VII 4X strategy game has taken place.

The game is already available on PC (and Steam Deck), PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.

Here's What We Know

Firaxis Games studio Firaxis Games has released a day one patch, making some improvements in response to criticism from gamers who purchased the expensive Civilisation VII edition and were unhappy with the quality of the strategy game. The full patch note is available on the game's Steam page, and we'll list just a few points:

  • A number of fixes have been made to gameplay, AI and interface;
  • city-states turn into friendly independent powers at the change of epochs, instead of disappearing from the world map;
  • naval battles and naval unit behaviour have been adjusted;
  • cities can now automatically switch Focus back to Growing City;
  • Future Civic mechanics can be reused in all eras. The cost of Future Tech and Future Civic increases when reused;
  • railway networks have been improved;
  • AI leaders have been made more hostile to players with opposing ideologies;
  • a notification when espionage is complete has appeared.

The developers have temporarily disabled crossplay on PC and consoles, as patches are released at different times on different platforms.

Civilisation VII's online peak on Steam has reached 66k players, but reviews of the game remain mixed, with only 52% leaving positive reviews, although even in those, many note that the game has too many flaws.

Firaxis Games has big plans for the development of Civilisation 7, so we want to believe that they will fix all the shortcomings and will long please players with new and interesting content.
