A Polish fighter pilot flew an F-35A Lightning II for the first time at the US National Guard Air Base in Ebbing, Arkansas.

Here's What We Know

This flight was made possible after the training of Polish military pilots under the leadership of the 33rd Fighter Wing began in October 2023. The first aircraft were delivered in December.

"In this era of strategic competition, we are committed to equipping our allies with the capabilities they need, as well as promoting better interoperability," said Colonel Dave Scaliki, 33rd Wing commander.

Poland has ordered 32 F-35As from Lockheed Martin as part of a 2019 military contract worth more than $6 billion. In August 2024, the first Polish F-35, called the Husarz, was unveiled. This makes Poland the first F-35 operator in Eastern Europe, which significantly enhances its defence capabilities.

In the spring, Polish pilots will complete their training and the first fifth-generation fighter jet will arrive at the tactical aviation base in Łaski. The rest of the aircraft will be delivered by 2030, replacing the outdated Soviet MiG-29s.
