Samsung added an irregular heart rhythm notification feature to the Galaxy Watch, starting with the Galaxy Watch 6 series in 2023. Since then, it has been repeatedly reported that the Galaxy Watch has helped users identify heart conditions and get timely medical attention.

Here's What We Know

In the latest news, a 61-year-old woman shared that her Galaxy Watch detected atrial fibrillation, a condition in which the upper chambers of the heart beat irregularly and often rapidly. While the condition is not directly life-threatening, if not treated in time, it can lead to a stroke. The user didn't pay much attention to the notification at first, but after receiving four notifications, she decided to seek medical help.

She was indeed diagnosed with atrial fibrillation and started taking medication. The woman noted that after confirming the results of the electrocardiogram, she called the nurse consultant and afterwards felt a slight pain from the left side of her neck to her shoulder, signalling heart problems.

It was also previously reported that a man was able to use his Galaxy Watch 5 smart watch to detect pericarditis, a condition in which the membrane surrounding the heart becomes inflamed.

These cases confirm that a smart watch from Samsung can be more than just a functional watch, but a device that can save your life.
