German police are investigating an incident involving the warship Emden, in which unknown persons dumped several dozen kilograms of metal shavings into its engine. The incident took place at a shipyard in Hamburg, where the ship was being inspected before being handed over to the fleet.

Here's What We Know

The Emden corvette ship had not yet been handed over to the German Navy when metal shavings were found in its engine during an inspection. According to German media reports, this could have caused serious damage if the problem had not been noticed in time.

The investigation is being conducted by the Hamburg prosecutor's office and local criminal police. The military command and the Ministry of Defence have not yet commented on the situation.

Germany is on high alert due to the threat of sabotage and hybrid attacks. The country has already recorded cases of drones flying over military installations, including the base where Ukrainian troops train. There have also been incidents of damage to NATO submarine cables in the Baltic Sea.
