Americans don't watch YouTube on their smartphones anymore

YouTube is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2025, and CEO Neal Mohan has shared some interesting facts about the platform.

Here's What We Know

According to Nielsen data, YouTube has become the top streaming platform in the US over the past 2 years in terms of viewing time. What's also interesting is that for the first time, TVs have surpassed mobile devices to become the top platform for YouTube viewing in the US. Users are watching not only regular videos on TVs but also content such as Shorts, podcasts, live streaming, sports, sitcoms and talk shows.

It is reported. that on average, viewers spend more than 1 billion hours every day watching content on TVs. As such, YouTube is rolling out new features for TVs, such as a second-screen option that allows viewers to interact with videos via their phone. It is also testing a Watch With feature that allows content creators to offer live commentary and real-time reactions to games and events.

YouTube TV and YouTube Music Premium in the US continue to gain popularity, surpassing 8 million and 100 million subscribers respectively. As such, the company plans to improve existing features and add new benefits for YouTube Premium subscribers.
