The United States is studying the possibility of creating an "Iron Dome" for a missile shield

The Space Development Agency (SDA) has launched a study into the possible expansion of its satellite architecture, namely the creation of an internal missile shield called Iron Dome for America.
Here's What We Know
In late January, Trump issued an executive order calling on the Department of Defence to develop a system to counter hypersonic weapons, cruise missiles and drones. The architecture envisages the use of satellite technologies, including the Missile Defence Agency's hypersonic and ballistic tracking programme and the SDA's Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA) network.
The possibility of creating space-based interceptors is also discussed.
The SDA has said it is considering options for expanding its satellite architecture as part of this initiative and has invited technology proposals from companies. The agency's research includes modelling the PWSA's ability to counter emerging threats, integrating space-based sensor technologies into the system, developing improved missile tracking capabilities, enhancing supply chain security, and improving on-orbit data processing.
Meanwhile, Senators Kevin Cramer and Dan Sullivan introduced a bill that would provide an additional $10.4 billion in funding for the Missile Defence Agency in FY2026 and another $19.5 billion in FY2025. The legislation is based on Trump's proposal and the findings of the Pentagon's 2022 Missile Defence Review.
