Apple has entered into a partnership with Alibaba to launch artificial intelligence on iPhones in China. This information was confirmed by Alibaba CEO Joe Tsai at the World Government Summit in Dubai.

Here's What We Know

"They talked to many companies in China, but finally chose us. They want to use our artificial intelligence for their phones. It is a great honour for us to work with such a big company as Apple," Cai said.

On the back of this news, Alibaba shares rose by 8.6%. The cooperation is a response to China's strict regulations that require foreign companies to work with local partners to provide AI services.

Outside of China, Apple uses a combination of its own Apple Intelligence artificial intelligence and ChatGPT from OpenAI. In China, the company has submitted materials for approval to the relevant authorities together with Alibaba.

Previously, Apple considered cooperation with Chinese AI companies such as DeepSeek and Baidu, but their models did not meet Apple's requirements. The choice in favour of Alibaba may help the company to regain its lost positions in the Chinese market, where its share decreased by 17% in 2024, losing the lead to Vivo.

It is known that the DeepSeek iOS app has serious security issues, including the transmission of unencrypted data. Despite the app's popularity in the App Store, its security was much weaker than expected.

In the US, DeepSeek has raised concerns about possible national security risks.
