Chevrolet unveiled the 1,300-hp Blazer EV.R NASCAR prototype
Chevrolet unveiled the Blazer EV.R NASCAR prototype ahead of the start of the DAYTONA 500. It's a 1,300-hp electric car with three six-phase motors that rev up to 15,000 rpm and is powered by a 78 kWh liquid-cooled battery pack.
Here's What We Know
According to Eric Warren, head of global motorsport programmes at General Motors, the company has no intention of abandoning its proven V8 engines in NASCAR, but is actively testing new technologies that could impact future production electric Chevrolet cars.
The prototype features a NASCAR Next Gen chassis and suspension and is equipped with a programmable all-wheel drive system. Contact with the race track is provided by Goodyear Racing Eagle tyres. Chevrolet says it worked closely with NASCAR and other manufacturers on the parameters and technical elements of the prototype.
GM Design designers made the Blazer EV.R look like the production Blazer EV SS, but with more aggressive styling. And the main thing - engineers managed not just to create a concept, but to test it in real conditions on the autodrome Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina.
Justin Allgaier, a Team Chevy driver and 2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series champion, was behind the wheel of the prototype during the test. He said that with this prototype, developers are learning how to tune regenerative braking, which has a big impact on braking sections and cornering balance.
While the EV.R NASCAR prototype is a racing fantasy, Chevrolet isn't forgetting about consumers. The flagship Blazer EV SS model will go on sale soon with up to 615 horsepower and 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) acceleration in just 3.4 seconds. The range is 303 miles (487 kilometres) and the price tag starts at $62,490.
