Saab has signed a contract to supply the UTAAS (Universal Tank and Anti-Aircraft System) targeting and fire control system for the Combat Vehicle 90 (CV90) infantry fighting vehicle.

Here's What We Know

The original equipment manufacturer for the CV90, BAE Systems Hägglunds, has signed a SEK 700 million ($63 million) contract.

The UTAAS was specifically designed for the CV90, securing a long-term partnership between Saab and BAE Systems Hägglunds. High demand for the infantry fighting vehicle led to the expansion of production capacity.

The system provides a high probability of engaging all ground and air targets, including helicopters. The maximum firing range is 5,000 metres, and the effective range against air targets is up to 2,000 metres.

The stabilised independent line of sight allows the target to be kept in the centre of the reticle, and the fire control computer automatically adjusts the gun's aim. All channels of the system pass through a single aperture, which guarantees stability and eliminates the need for reconfiguration.

The modular design allows the system to be adapted to different types of weapons, integrated with command systems and customised for performance and laser protection. An interface for programming ammunition is also provided.

UTAAS is used in CV90s in service with Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Finland, the Netherlands, Denmark and Estonia.
