Google is developing a new feature for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold that will allow you to more accurately determine when the phone is open or closed, especially when using magnetic cases.

Here's What We Know

One of the main features of foldable phones like the Pixel Fold is their dual screens. When you need a large screen for content, you can unfold the phone and use the internal display, and when you want a more compact device, you fold it up and use the external screen.

Switching between screens is automatic thanks to the folding angle sensor. However, magnetic cases or accessories can interfere with this sensor, which can cause the phone to incorrectly detect whether it is open or closed.

With the release of the second beta of Android 16, Google has added a code that indicates the new feature. Users who use magnetic accessories will be able to enable this option in the settings menu (probably in the "Screen and touch" section).

However, Google warns that enabling this feature may increase battery consumption. Therefore, users are advised to turn it off if they are no longer using magnetic accessories to preserve the charge.

This feature is not yet activated in Android 16 Beta 2, but is likely to be available in the stable release of Android 16. Although the code only mentions the first generation Pixel Fold, it is expected that this option will also be available for the second generation Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

If you use your Pixel without a case, you probably won't need this feature.
