Apple has revisited the idea of introducing adverts in the Apple Maps app, Bloomberg reports citing Mark Gurman.

Here's What We Know

Back in 2022, the company considered this option but did not implement it. Now Apple is "giving this idea more attention", although engineering work has not yet begun. This means that advertising in Apple Maps may not appear soon.

We are not talking about banner ads, but paid search results. For example, a fast-food chain can pay to appear at the top of the results when searching for "burgers" or "fries". A similar model already works in Google Maps, Waze, and Yelp.

Apple already uses search advertising in the App Store, allowing developers to promote their apps. The addition of advertising in Apple Maps could become another source of income for the company.

Recently, Apple CEO Tim Cook intrigued social media users with a new announcement. In his post, he wrote: "Get ready to meet a new family member" and added the hashtag #AppleLaunch. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the most likely announcement is the new iPhone SE. Earlier, he reported that Apple plans to unveil the device next week.

Apple has started advertising on the X platform again, for the first time in more than a year. The company stopped advertising in November 2023 after controversial statements by the social network owner Elon Musk.

Recently, Apple Maps replaced the name of the Gulf of Mexico not only for US users but also worldwide.
