The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra electric sedan has set a new lap record among production cars at the Shanghai International Circuit (SIC). With a lap time of 2 minutes 9.944 seconds, the SU7 Ultra beat the previous record of the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT by 1.336 seconds. The top speed on the straightaway was 323 km/h.

Here's What We Know

Xiaomi claims that before the race, the SU7 Ultra was tested to SIC standards for mass-market cars, standard tyres were used, as well as a high-precision timing system for Formula 1. The sedan was driven by Ren Zhoucan, Xiaomi EV's chief driving dynamics engineer and an experienced test driver.

The only difference from the regular car was the safety cage, which added some weight but was a prerequisite for the race.
