Owners of Volvo EX90 and Polestar 3 can use Digital Key from Samsung

Samsung is expanding support for the Digital Key feature in its Samsung Wallet app. The digital key is now available for Volvo and Polestar car owners. Previously, the feature was supported for selected Audi, BMW, Mini, Kia, and Hyundai models.

Here's What We Know

The Digital Key feature allows you to use your smartphone as a car key - you can lock and unlock your car and start the engine. This is possible thanks to three wireless technologies. Firstly, UWB (ultra-wideband) provides contactless access. Second, NFC allows you to unlock and start the car by touch. Thirdly, Bluetooth LE allows you to remotely control the locks.

In addition, Samsung Wallet allows you to share your digital key with friends and family, even if they don't use Galaxy smartphones. If the device is lost or stolen, the owner can use Samsung Find to block or delete the key. Digital Key security is EAL6+ certified.

Support for new models is limited, but the list will be expanded. In particular, in February, Digital Key will be available for Volvo EX90 in Europe, North and South America, and Asia (Australia, Malaysia, Thailand). Polestar 3 will be supported in Europe, North America and Asia (Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore).

To use the Digital Key, you will need one of the following devices: Galaxy S20, S21 (including FE), S22, S23 (including FE), S24 (and FE), S25. Foldable models from Fold2 to Fold6, Flip 5G to Flip6, as well as Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra are also supported. Some of these models have UWB, detailed specifications can be checked on the manufacturer's website.
