Missiles, drones and air defence systems: EU to consider additional €5bn in military aid to Ukraine

Ambassadors of the European Union will discuss the possibility of providing Ukraine with additional military assistance in the amount of 5 billion euros.

Here's What We Know

According to Radio Liberty, the draft decision states that the EU intends to provide Ukraine with 1.5 million large-calibre artillery rounds, air defence systems, long-range precision missiles, and drones. It is also planned to support the brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including training and equipment.

Separate funding will be allocated to support Ukraine's defence industry, including initiatives that bring together the EU and Ukrainian defence industries.

The meeting of EU ambassadors will take place on Tuesday, 18 February, in Brussels. The draft document states that the EU will continue to provide military support to Ukraine "for as long as necessary".

Since the start of the full-scale invasion in February 2022, the EU has provided €134.5 billion in aid to Ukraine, including €48.5 billion in military assistance.
