Worse than the Cold War: Denmark to announce 'massive' rearmament due to Russian threat
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said that her government will present plans on Wednesday to significantly strengthen the country's defence capabilities amid the growing threat from Russia.

Frederiksen stressed that Denmark must "massively rearm" to avoid war and called for a speedy upgrade of the defence sector. According to the Danish broadcaster DR, the government plans to create a fund of 50 billion kroner ($7 billion) for additional defence spending in 2025-2026. Initially, doubling this amount was considered, but it was determined that there is currently insufficient supply on the defence equipment market.
Among the priority purchases are air defence systems, which Denmark does not yet have. Frederiksen stressed that the country is going through "the most dangerous period in its lifetime" and that the situation is worse than during the Cold War.
After emergency talks in Paris on changing US policy towards Ukraine, she warned that Russia threatens the whole of Europe and may not stop at Ukraine.
If the defence fund is approved in the amount of 50 billion kroner, Denmark's defence spending will increase to 3% of its GDP. At the same time, US President Donald Trump has called on NATO allies to increase their target spending to 5% of GDP.

In short, Denmark remains one of Ukraine's largest sponsors, having provided about $7.52 billion in military aid and $741 million in civilian support since the beginning of the war.
