Volvo is preparing to unveil a new electric sedan ES90. The Swedish carmaker has published teaser images, revealed some details about the technological "stuffing", and also announced the date of presentation - 5 March 2025.

Here's What We Know

Volvo continues to develop the sedan segment, which remains popular in China, where parent company Geely is based.

The ES90 is positioned as "Volvo's most powerful car" in terms of computing power. Based on a software-defined platform and powered by Nvidia technologies, the electric sedan is capable of 508 trillion operations per second (TOPS), ensuring smooth operation of the car's systems and interfaces. The over-the-air (OTA) update feature will allow key features to be improved, even after the car is purchased.

The ES90's specifications are not yet fully disclosed, but Volvo is emphasising on safety systems. The electric sedan will be equipped with 12 ultrasonic sensors, eight cameras, five radars and lidar. The novelty will be built on the SPA2 platform, which is also used in the EX90 model.

According to the Swedish publication Teknikens Värld, which got access to Volvo's internal documents, the dimensions of the ES90 (index "V551") are:

  • 4990 mm length,
  • width 1945 mm,
  • height 1547mm,
  • wheelbase 3102 mm.

The mass of the all-wheel drive version with two engines is expected to be 2600 kg, rear-wheel drive version with one engine - 2500 kg. A 111 kW⋅h battery is expected to provide a range of 600 kilometres under the Chinese certification cycle. These specifications are preliminary and require official confirmation.

Full information about the Volvo ES90 will be released on 5 March during the official presentation. Information on the global availability of the model is not yet available, but it is known that Volvo plans to sell the electric sedan outside of China. With Volvo's strategic move to fully electrify its model range, the ES90 could replace the aging S90 with internal combustion engines in the near future.
