AirTag now available for baggage tracking on American Airlines

American Airlines now supports an iPhone feature that makes it easy to share your luggage's location with AirTag at airports.
Here's What We Know
According to View from the Wing, this new feature is available with iOS 18.2, which allows users to temporarily share the location of AirTagged items with others, including airline employees.
Thanks to this feature, if a user has placed an AirTag in their luggage, the airline will be able to help find it faster in case of loss or delay at the airport. An American Airlines spokesperson confirmed that support for this feature was introduced this week.
Other airlines that have already offered this feature include Delta, United, Air Canada, Virgin Atlantic, Lufthansa, and others.
Customers can generate a link through the Share an Item feature in iOS 18.2 or later and share it with American Airlines if their luggage is delayed while flying to or from a US airport.

iPhone, iPad, and Mac users with iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2 or later can create a Share Item Location link in the Find My app. Those who receive the link can view a webpage with the item's geolocation on a map that is automatically updated.
Apple noted that the company worked directly with airlines to create the system. Access to each link is "restricted to a small number of people" and airport staff must "authenticate" to view the link by logging in to their Apple ID or partner email.
The item's geolocation will no longer be available for sharing once the user finds it, or will automatically disable after seven days.
iOS 18.2 was released in December, and Apple plans for other airlines to roll out the feature in the coming months.
